Glossary

This glossary explains the terms Roster Signal uses when tracking how esports teams change and why those changes matter. Definitions stay close to reporting practice: what the term means, where it appears in coverage, and what readers should watch for.

Roster move

A change in a team lineup, staff group, or active player list. In coverage, this can include signings, departures, role swaps, loans, or temporary stand-ins.

Trial

A short evaluation period before a permanent decision. A trial matters because it signals uncertainty: the team is testing fit, not announcing a settled roster.

Bench

The inactive part of a roster. A player on the bench is still connected to the organisation, but not currently in the main lineup.

Role change

A shift in what a player is expected to do inside the team. A role change can be more important than a simple transfer because it can alter team structure and in-game responsibility.

How we use these terms

  • We prefer precise language over hype.
  • We separate confirmed changes from reported possibilities.
  • We note whether a change affects performance, leadership, or long-term planning.

Transfer window

In esports, this can refer to a period when roster changes are especially active, even if the rules differ by title or league. We use the term carefully and explain the competition context when needed.

Evidence trail

The chain of public signals used to support a report: official posts, lineup updates, tournament registrations, interviews, and other verifiable references.

If a term appears in a story and you want the underlying reasoning, look for the evidence trail linked in the article or contact the team for clarification.
